Dysart Harbour

Updated: Jan 24

The harbours take on a new character when the boats are all drawn up on the quays for winter. The colours of the hulls are on full display, the keels and forms make repeating patterns of shapes, both colours and shapes reflected in the water.

I visit on sunny winter days when the bright winter sun brings out the colours of the warm stone to add to the magic. It was a cold November day with a chilly breeze, so I only did one quick sketch but took a series of photographs.

There is such a difference working from photographs when you have also sketched, seen and looked, felt the atmosphere and remember the sounds of the tinkling rigging as well as the chill of the air.

The drawings and the painting I did back in the studio are in my 'Coast' and my 'Drawings' collections

This as a more 'graphic' style drawing that I did to focus on the wonderful colours and patterns of the hulls

And, finally, a full painting - acrylic on canvas
